"Why I didn't go to jail "

The demonstrations held at the Madison Street jail as I reurned from vacation included the opportunity to engage in civil disobedience.  Several colleagues, including Susan Frederick-Grey of UUCP and the President of the UUA chose to be arrested and taken to jail.  I attended the demonstration but had decided not to be arrested.  When asked why, I repied that I was scheduled for jury duty that coming Monday.  Actually the reason was a little more complicated.

"Ingathering"

This coming church year is one of significant change.  Terry and I will be doing a co-ministry (with my going to half time and Terry moving to a 12 month half time position).  In addition, we will be welcoming our third ministerial intern, Patty Willis.  The co-ministry has been in the planning stages for some time.  The intern was an opportunity that delveoped late last year.  A full plate of change.  The unexpected and tragic death of our Music Director, Jim Flom, adds a layer of both change and sadness to an already stressful set of circumstances.  As we begin the church year we will share some of our hopes and dreams for our future together.

"My Grandfather's Blessings "

During WW11, my grandfather lived in a small town in northern Wyoming.  When Heart Mountain Relocation Center (located just up the road), became the largest city in Wyoming, many of the surrounding towns put up signs: "No Japanese allowed."  My Papa Braown was a baker.  What could he do?  How do we welcome stangers?
